In November of 2014, Google announced that it was rolling out a new system, Google Mobile Friendly, to recognize and eventually label website’s as “Mobile Friendly” for search results.
If your website is not mobile ready, then Google will penalize your site listing by lowering it in the search results. This could be disastrous to companies that have relied on prime rankings in the past, but have not updated their website with either a responsive or mobile design.
Many features that could ding your website as non-mobile ready are the use of incompatible programs like Flash, text that doesn’t adjust in size for easy reading, and sideways swiping or scrolling to see entire website. How do you know if your site is mobile friendly? Google has developed an easy app to test out your site just by entering in your website’s URL address. Visit: Google Mobile Test
In April 2015, Google will launch their new Mobile Friendly label in search results. On April 21st, Google users can expect to see an added feature to search result listings to look like the example provided above.
